After Paris attacks: France and U.S. struggle with Syrian refugee issue
http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/19/world/paris-attacks-us-france-refugees/
The attack by ISIS that killed 129 people in France has has left a lot of leaders and citizens questioning whether or not to continue to let Syrian refugees, fleeing from civil war, into their country. Because it is believed that the ISIS terrorist was able to enter the country by posing as a Syrian refugee, a lot of the countries fear for their citizens safety and their overall national security. Although France refuses to hault what they feel is their "humanitarian duty" of accepting the refugees into their country, some Americans have a different outlook on the situation. Some believe that suspending the program allowing Syrian and Iraqi refugees into the U.S. is crucial until key national security agencies certify they don't pose a security risk.
Do you think that countries should discontinue programs to let in Syrian refugees? Why? Do you believe we have a duty to help Syrian refugees or do you believe that national security is more important? Why?

I do not think that countries should continue to let Syrian refugees in at this time. In the future the issue can be revisited and reconsidered, but right now there is too much chaos with terrorism. I do think it would be more acceptable to let refugees in if they have thorough background checks to prove they are not entering Europe or other countries for another motive.
ReplyDeleteI believe that we should completely prevent all syrian refugees from entering the country. It would be way too difficult to identify each person as a threat of not, so we should just shut them down completly from coming in. We do not have a duty to help syrian refugees. They are just threatening our countrys safety and we continue to support them. National security is definatly more importand than helping syrian refugees. We need to make sure that we are safe first, and that we have the protection we need before helping outsiders.
ReplyDeleteCountries should continue programs to let Syrian refugees in because they need a place to stay where they won't be harassed. National security is important, but countries have a duty to help the refugees as well. To do this, countries need to increase security to lessen the risk of possible terrorists coming in.
ReplyDeleteI believe we should let refugees into our country. We have let other refugees from other times in our country. Years ago we let people from nations we were in conflict with come to our country. However, I do believe we should enforce the selection of refugees. We should really look into their background, or find a way to determine if they are terrorists or not . Other countries should take the refugees, in my opinion. This is because U.S. and France are a big target for ISIS.
ReplyDeleteI believe that if we don't allow the Syrian refugees into the US, we are turning our backs to humanity and therefore becoming the very people that we hate. I do believe that we should not suspend the programs that are allowing refugees into the US and should welcome them with open arms. I do believe that national security is important but i believe that keeping our humanity is more important and therefore should be emphasized.
ReplyDeleteSyrians are in trouble, no doubt about. We need to keep programs that let Syrian refugees in however we still need to protect ourselves and with increased security and background checks to minimize the treat of terrorism.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is right to block out Syrian refugees, but in a sense it is alright because we are only protecting our society. There are other refugees in our country so it should be fine for Syrians to enter also. We need to do whatever to have high security and stop the attacks around the world.
ReplyDeleteI don't think country s should discontinue refugees, because they do need help and how can we stand back and watch hundreds of people die. At the same time we do still need to protect our own country and we should still be strict on how we let the refugees in.
ReplyDeletePretend that you were in the same situation, you cannot punish a whole group of people who certain individuals actions. There's always a bad seed, but you cannot let that stop you from eating all the other fruits. You cannot live your life being too paranoid and I believe that it is our duty to help other people. What is the off chance that ISIS is posing as a Syrian refugee?
